Weekend rewind:Kissin' baby gators and a history lesson on the Louisiana bayou

This past weekend I went with my friend Kate to La Place, Louisiana to take tour of a near by swamp. And WOW. Cajun Pride Tours sure knows how to show a couple of girls a good time!

Not only was the swamp far more beautiful than I expected, the weather was perfect. It was a tad chilly, but certainly nothing a couple of brewskies couldn't fix ;). Yet another photo of met looking just awful. This is what grad school does to you :(

Captain Allen was also wonderful and gave the most lively, fascinating and detailed history of the swamp beginning with when the Acandians settled here from Canada after they were exiled by the British. History note - the word cajun manifested from the native indians pronunciation of Acadian. He shared tons of other fun facts that I can't recall and didn't write down because I was having way too much fun, but the man is a remarkable historian and great story teller.

We didn't think we'd get to see much wildlife because the weather changed drastically overnight from 80s to low 60s, but there was plenty to see.

Captain Allen called all the raccoons "Roxie." They really liked marshmallows!

Kate really liked the baby gator!

This will surely be one of my most favorite memories with her!

Kate also got Captain Allen on video feeding the big gators. They liked chicken and marshmallows, too, but mostly just the chicken. Watch and listen. The sounds and commentary are hilarious!
