A Baton Rouge Gem: Maison Lacour for our two-year anniversary!

Kyle and I celebrated two years of marriage at Maison Lacour, a French restaurant in Baton Rouge. It was the PERFECT place to toast to the challenges and successes that transpired since our wedding in 2010.
I've mentioned before that since Kyle and I dated long distance for two years we didn't have the opportunity to go out on casual dates whenever we pleased. To make up for many missed dates, when saw one another every six weeks, we decided to dress up and make the entire evening of dinning out.

I read about this restaurant in the March issue of Baton Rouge's 225 Magazine, which featured stories about local chefs. One story in particular peaked my interest. It encompassed the essence of a true love story. Young college student casts aside plans for a career as an accountant and seeks apprenticeship with local French chef where he falls in love with the owner's daughter and now they run the place together. A remarkable love story. Read the full article.

I wanted to go there for Valentines this year and I anticipated a place such as this would have limited seating for special occasion holidays so I called a month in advance and sure enough they were already booked up! Our next event for this expensive of an out was our anniversary. It was worth the wait!

Here's some pictures and descriptions of our meal from the night.

We started with an artichoke heart filled with jumbo
lump crab meat and a hollandaise sauce

Then we moved on to a venison sausage with grilled
apple and mustard sauce

And then on to a soupe Jacqueline made of
veloute of brie cheese, crab and asparagus

For our entrees, Kyle had the wild boar chops marinated in port and roasted,
topped with mushrooms in cream sauce

And I had the rock dove marinated in port, stuffed with veal,
pork, shallots and pistachio baked and served with port wine sauce
 And for dessert...... chocolate souffle!

It was a WONDERFUL evening. The ambiance was inviting and romantic, the service polite and prompt and we enjoyed every moment. This place was a 4.5 star restaurant in my book.

  1. Friends all nice post I also share with you something. Make sure that the Accountant has previous experience of dealing with contractors. Ask him or her how many contractors he or she has on their books. There is a morass of legislation, like IR35, that is aimed specifically at freelancers and it is crucial that your Accountant is up-to-date with all the legislation. Make sure that the Accountant has previous experience of your sector. If, for example, you are an IT Contractor, it is very useful if the Accountant has good knowledge of the sector. Choose the size of Accountancy firm that suits you. Some people may prefer to go with a large organisation with vast experience of the business but where you may be dealing with someone low down the organisation. Others may prefer a small firm where you are dealing with the owner or partner of the Accountancy company. Meet up with several Accountancy firms and let them know that you are doing this so that you can get the best offer for the best service. Decide beforehand whether you want the Accountant to do all the admin or whether you are happy to do a lot of the book-keeping with the Accountant mainly giving advice and doing your end-of-year returns. Once you have decided yourself what you want to do and what you want the accountant to do you can then ask the price. Ask the Accountant for a full list of services that they can provide as you may not have though of everything.
